Coffee with Colleen
Oct 9, 2023
I am very fond of rituals because they keep me grounded. They center me when the world is feeling a little too chaotic. One of my most important rituals is drinking my coffee in the morning. Recently, I have been adding a dash of cardamom to my coffee in the mornings. I protect my time in the mornings so that I can drink my coffee slowly and thoughtfully. It is one of the truly calm and peaceful times of my day where I connect with the Creator. I invite you to grab your favorite beverage and spend some time connecting with God the Holy Parent this morning.
Today we celebrate Indigenous People’s Day. From the ELCA, “this day is an opportunity to celebrate our Indigenous siblings and the many gifts they offer the world, and to learn more about the Tribal nations that continue to impact church and society. The church is called to be about the work of justice through the Truth and Healing Movement, through our resolve to repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery, and through our call to respond to Christ’s love with even more love.”
As you drink your morning coffee, take time to learn more about Native Tribes that continue to thrive today. Support a Native owned business by making a purchase. Read a book written by a Native author. Check out the some of the interactive online exhibits at the National Museum of the Native American. Learn more about the Pope’s decision to renounce the Doctrine of Discovery in March. Honor America’s first inhabitants by exploring and learning about the interactive map Native-Land.ca.
How are you called to faithfully love and celebrate your Indigenous neighbor today and everyday?
In faithful solidarity,
Colleen
