Jesus Is
Written By: Justin March

“He is hope, he is light, he is with me in every moment.  He is all that I need, everything good in me.  Living inside my heart, the reason why I’m alive.  Some might say that Jesus was, I say Jesus is.”

Lyrics from “Jesus Is” by The Neverclaim

It is Easter morning, and I am thinking a lot about who Jesus was.  Some believe he was the Messiah, sent from his father to save the world.  Others believe he was a prophet and a teacher who merely saw things most ordinary people could not.  And if you believe in the story of Easter, and all that happened during Holy Week, then you know that Jesus was a healer, forgiver, lover, and friend who gave his life for all of humanity.  Yes, Jesus was the one we hear about in our Bible stories, but when we look up to the cross and remember what he sacrificed, I believe it would be a shame to focus on just who Jesus was.

Many people will say that the belief in Jesus and following his way are archaic.  They will tell you that the tales of the Bible come from a different time and are no longer relevant in today’s world.  And some may even say that God and everything Christianity believes in have become extinct and that putting your faith in a figure we are unable to see or touch is a foolish endeavor.

If we are always talking about who Jesus was, I can relate to what the non-believers are saying.  But if we change our vocabulary and tell people who Jesus is, the doors open to more recognition and understanding.  We need to explain to people how he is working in our lives now and help them to understand how he can fit into theirs.

Just look around your house right now.  Spring is here and new growth is beginning.  God’s creations on this earth definitely were an amazing feat, yet if we keep our eyes open and pay attention, Jesus continues his father’s creation.  The flowers have new blooms, the grass begins to green, and trees begin to leaf.  And as God’s creatures emerge from hibernation, mating season begins, and new life is created.

You see, not only was Jesus our Savior and should be remembered for his ultimate sacrifice on the cross, but Jesus is a friend we can rely on during good times and bad.  It can be an ambiguous subject, and it takes a lot of faith to believe that Jesus is, but with an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will see how he is working in your life.

When you get that phone call from a long, lost friend and don’t quite understand what prompted them to do so, remember that Jesus is using them to reconnect and resurrect.  When you see someone give a hand-out to that person on the corner, devote their time to non-profit organizations, or use their abundance to help those in need, Jesus is shining his light through them for others to see.  And even in the simplest of times, when you feel the warmth of the sun on your face, when you hear the ocean waves crashing against the beach, or when you smell the fragrances of the flowers around you, remember that Jesus still is.

Jesus is still here among us.  No, you may never see his face or be embraced by his loving arms, but if you are open to the unexplainable events that happen in your life, you will begin to understand that he is part of all of them.  His touch comes through the people that love you, his breath is in the winds, and his healing is embedded in those times of forgiveness and grace.  It is all about perspective, and if you truly believe that Jesus was, take some time to slow down and embrace who Jesus really is.

It is Easter and time to celebrate who Jesus was.  A time to be humbled by the teachings and healing he brought to the people of long ago.  A time to be thankful for his sacrifice so we could be forgiven by his grace.  And a time to spread the messages of how he and his father saved humanity through love and acceptance.  But let’s not forget that Jesus is still doing these things.  He still walks with us, he still loves us, and he still performs miracles.  He is still teaching us to be accepting, compassionate, and understanding.  And through it all, everything that Jesus was, can still be who Jesus is!

“He is risen.  He is risen indeed!  Hallelujah!”

Relaxed, Restored, and Rejuvenated

Relaxed, Restored, and Rejuvenated
By Justin March

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”1 Peter 5:10

This vacation was exactly what the doctor ordered!  I had been working the daily grind too long, and my body was telling me it was time to take a break.  And without the distractions of my cell phone, email, and media propaganda, I was able to focus on the healing I needed, the family I love, and the beautiful surroundings of a place I had never experienced before.

My body relaxed as I walked the beaches and listened to the ocean waves.  The stress began to melt away, and my eyes were open to new opportunities and destinations.  And even when that cool water sent a shiver up and down my spine, it was in these moments that I found the relaxation I so desperately needed.

I felt restored as I let go of the obligations this fast-paced world throws at me.  The broken frame was healing, and that beat down feeling began to dissipate.  The love of my family, the wildlife around me, and the fresh ocean air was all I needed to bring back that positivity.  And by the time our vacation came to an end, I felt whole again and ready to take on the world.

As our plane landed back in Denver, I couldn’t help but feel rejuvenated by this nice little break.  I had soaked up the sun, breathed in the ocean air, and relished in God’s beautiful creation.  I had spent precious time with family, enjoyed conversations with locals, and experienced new and exciting landmarks.  And in all of this, I found the energy I needed to come back home and start the next chapter.

Relaxed, restored, and rejuvenated.  Yes, I am feeling good after this vacation, and the memories made will last forever.  But how do I keep these feelings going when I face the stress of work and daily obligations again?  Let’s start with this.  I need to remember that no matter what this world wants to throw my way, I can feel relaxed when I end my day in Jesus’ loving arms.  I must understand that is only he who can restore me when I am weary, and that I must confess my sins, forgive my neighbors, and love unconditionally to become whole again.  And when I take the time to fulfill the mission he has for my life, I feel rejuvenated as I see his light and how it brings others nearer to him.

If you are feeling worn out, stressed, or overworked, I pray that you find the time to take a break and spend some time with our creator.  We may not always be able to take a vacation and escape the realities of our daily grinds, but we do have the opportunity to pray, read our bibles, volunteer at charities, love one another, and strive towards fulfilling God’s mission.  And when we keep our faith strong and trust in the Lord, it is then that we will always feel relaxed, restored, and rejuvenated as he takes our hand and leads us to the cross!

Action Not Words

Action Not Words
By Justin March

“Thus says the Lord, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth: for I delight in these things,’ declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24

“Cause all I want is some Action, Action, Action, not words.  Gimme Action, Action, Action not words.”

Def Leppard “Action Not Words” from the album Pyromania

In just a few hours the Super Bowl will finally be here.  Two teams who have fought through adversity, put together the best gameplans, and gave all they had to reach this glorious destination will take the field.  It will be an experience like none other for these groups of players and coaches, and once that final whistle blows, one team will be standing tall while the other will need to learn what it takes to deal with defeat.

All week I have been watching the media hype up the Super Bowl.  It does only come once a year and is quite the achievement for the two teams involved.  But what I have noticed, especially after reading the verse from Jeremiah above, is there sure is a lot of boasting coming from both sides.  Nothing has actually been done yet, but that doesn’t keep the players and coaches from bragging about their achievements to this point.

The media likes to hype up what can be super about this event.  They tell us how great both teams are.  They tell us how strategic the coaches gameplans will be.  They brag about the physical prowess of the players, the beauty of the stadium, and the glamorous events that precede the big game.  And they even go on and on about what companies will have the best commercials this year.  I get it, and I can just as easily buy into the hype as much as the next person, but there is something missing from all this commotion.

Where is the action?  I am hearing a lot of boastful words, but they are not backed by anything I can physically see.  Neither of these teams know what the outcome will be, yet they stand tall and want to tell us all about how great they are.  Are we really supposed to believe their words or follow their direction without actually witnessing their actions?

I sometimes feel like this, as a Christian, in today’s skeptical society.  I can easily boast about how great God is, tell people about all the Bible passages I know, or preach to them about the mistakes they are making.  I can brag about the charities we donate to, the number of times we go to church, and the prayer life we practice.  But does any of this matter if the person I am trying to reach is only hearing the words being spoken instead of witnessing the actions being done?

Jesus did not walk this earth boasting about the miracles he could perform.  He just did them.  He did not put the rich and wealthy on a pedestal.  He gave to the poor.  And he did not hang out with the righteous, pure, and self-proclaimed Christians of his time.  He searched for the lost and longed to bring them closer to the cross.  You see, Jesus did use his words to testify his Fathers’ messages, but he backed them up with actions that could be witnessed by all.  And it was in these actions where people became faithful and were drawn to follow his incredible path.

As you begin your week, remember to let your actions be super.  This lost society is hungry for the truth and thirsty for the answers.  Many are searching for a purpose and struggling to find their way.  But they will not understand that Jesus can make them whole by words alone.  They must see us walking with faith, beaming with light, and humbling ourselves before others.  They must see us forgive one another, show grace when we fall, and promote love, unity, and acceptance.  And they must witness that our actions are so much stronger than our words when we are trying to bring them closer to Christ.

Just like the Super Bowl, there will come a time when there will be one last play.  The whistle will blow, and the results will be in.  But unlike the big game, we already know which team will stand tall.  It will not be the boastful ones who proclaimed they were better than God and had all the answers.  It will be the meek, humble, loving, forgiving, and accepting followers who made Jesus their Savior and accomplished his mission.  Not through words, but through actions.  And in the end, if we have been “super” in living a life that others can actually witness, the hope of bringing others to the cross will come to fruition giving everyone the chance to win!

Movin On Up

Movin’ On Up

“Well we’re movin’ on up, to the east side.  To a deluxe apartment in the sky.  Movin’ on up, to the east side.  We finally got a piece of the pie.”
Theme Song from The Jeffersons

As we were helping our daughter move to her new house yesterday, this song kept running through my head.  Maybe it was because her and her family were moving to Peyton, which is indeed on the east side, or maybe it was because they were moving on up from an apartment to a house.  No matter the reason, the lyrics seemed to be trying to tell me something.

And then it struck me.  God is always trying to help us move up in this life.  He is willing to guide us and give us the tools to ascend towards that glorious place he calls home.  He walks beside us as we help the less fortunate, he comforts us when we pray, and he smiles upon us when we spread his positive messages.

Step by step we travel this journey.  Obstacles, roadblocks, and detours will be encountered.  It will not always be easy, and the path may not be clear.  But when we follow God’s guidance and take his hand, the good works we experience and the miracles we witness become blessings that bring us one step closer to moving on up.

Rung by rung we climb that ladder.  It may seem unstable, shaky, and rickety.  Sometimes it may feel solid as it balances on a firm foundation and other times it may feel like the feet will collapse underneath us.  But if we allow God to move up those rungs ahead of us and take his hand to help us stay stable, we avoid looking back so we can continue to move on up.

“Movin’ on up.”  Maybe this is the message God is trying to portray this week.  Maybe he is nudging us to give a little more, listen a little more, and spread the gospel just a little more.  Maybe he is pushing us to remember the mission he has set out before us and to act with hope, faith, and grace.  And maybe, just maybe, as we walk beside him and fulfill his promises, we find ourselves “movin’ on up to that deluxe apartment in the sky!”

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14

Because I Asked You To

Because I Asked You To
By: Justin March

“He has shown you, O Mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8

“He said to them, “Go into the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Mark 16:15

I can almost guarantee that when I ask my children to take out the trash, empty the dishwasher, put away their clothes, or do any other chore that will help out the family, they will immediately ask why.  Sometimes the question comes with a little defiance, and sometimes it is just merely to understand why I am asking them to do this task.  I could easily get into a discussion with them about how doing chores builds character, teaches discipline, promotes cleanliness, and prepares them for a world that will constantly be asking them to do something.  But no matter the reason, what it really boils down to is the fact that I am their father, and they should do it because I asked them to.

Are we asking God why as he nudges us to do something in this life?  Are we defiant, argumentative, or even ignorant to the reasons he is guiding us and preparing the way that brings us closer to Him?  What if God decided to abolish the forgiveness, acceptance, and grace he bestows upon us when we deny the call and decide to make our own decisions?

I find that our children ask less questions when they see my wife and I doing the same things we ask of them.  Leading by example helps them understand that it takes all of us to make this home a clean, healthy place to live.  And completing the tasks, without argument or resistance, gives us more time to spend together as a family and do the things we love.

When I find myself questioning God and what he wants me to do in this life, I need to look no further than what I am asking my children to do.  He has already led by example as he healed the sick, fought for the underprivileged, forgave our sins, extended his grace, and even died on the cross.  And all He asks is that we follow his call, love our neighbors, and spread His messages so that all His children have the chance to walk this miraculous journey.

We have entered the Lenten season, and God is asking us to do some chores.  They may seem cumbersome and daunting, yet He is asking us to complete them anyway.  He wants us to look in the mirror and reflect on our lives.  He is asking us to repent, rid ourselves of our sinful nature, and follow His calling to avoid making the same mistakes.  And He is preparing us to sacrifice so we may appreciate the abundance He provides each and every day.

I can make the choice to argue with God, question His authority, and deny His calling.  I can follow my own path and ignore His signals.  I can think I know better than He, and I can continue to try to accomplish the tasks the world shoves in my face.  But hasn’t God already walked in my shoes, extended His grace, and forgiven my sins so that I can come clean and bring others to Him?

I know He has, and He no longer needs to prove anything.  Maybe it is time to have a little more faith, show a little more love, and extend a little more grace.  And maybe, just maybe, if we can build that trusting relationship with God, we will no longer ask why when He needs us to do something for Him.  We will merely complete the tasks just because He asked us to!

A Reflection on the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A Reflection on the Life of Martin Luther King, Jr. by  Jean Lindsey

Several of us from the Social Concerns Forum were able to attend part, or all, of the MLK schedule of events on Monday January 16th here in Denver, Colorado. The morning was cold, and chill, but the spirit and purpose of those who were gathered there, lent a sense of warmth and anticipation to the events to come. The life of MLK was celebrated and remembered. Yet the tasks that remain to be accomplished, if any real sense of enduring peace & justice are to be realized, were emphasized as well. Martin Luther King, Jr., was very aware of this, and he voiced his disappointment in the “silence” of well -meaning individuals who often told him that he was moving “too fast.” Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke eloquently in his “Letter from A Birmingham Jail” that proponents of his “methods” had no sense of empathy or understanding of what he & his followers were dealing with on a day to day basis. The scenes on TV were brutal – the fire hoses, the beatings, and the yells & curses from those who did not want people of color to engage with them in any manner – be it in the schools, the churches, the buses, or whatever. But what has become so apparent to me in these last few years, is that although the open hatred persists in many ways, there is also a deeper & perhaps more subtle form of injustice, of which I was very unaware.

And that involves areas of inequity in housing, schooling, intergenerational wealth, ability to obtain viable employment, etc. Terms such as systemic racism and white advantage or privilege have become common, yet such labels remain very controversial, if not down right offensive to some. It is very hard at times to realize what some of our brothers & sisters have lived through, sometimes on daily basis, and that their reality is very, very different from ours. As much as I felt a deep concern & empathy for the openly hateful behavior directed towards people of color during the Civil Rights movement, I was completely & totally oblivious to the ongoing impact on these same people because of the many injustices that have been perpetuated in our society. So, it is with humility & indeed some sorrow, that I re-read the words of MLK, Jr, when he says, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” So, I know that I must keep listening & learning. But that is not enough. We must find ways to act that benefit all of us, as Christians who follow a Savior who commanded us to “love one another.”

Your Cart is Empty by Justin March

Your Cart is Empty by Justin March

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30

I could not believe it.  As I read the text that came across my phone, I was astonished by the words presented.  The message had been masterfully crafted, and it felt like whomever hit that send button knew exactly how to capture my attention!

25% off New Year’s Sale on all vinyl records.  What?  Are you freaking kidding me?  One of my favorite places to buy vinyl online was going to tempt me with a sale like this?  Didn’t they know I had made a resolution to not spend frivolously until we had recovered from the Christmas, vacation, and investment bills we always receive at the beginning of the year?

As the albums loaded into my shopping cart, one by one, I was elated by the chance to purchase some gems at a discount, yet I was burdened with the thought of spending money on something I really don’t need.  The experience was both agonizing and exciting.  I had spent a lot of time sifting through the large catalog being offered, and the list at the end was quite extensive.  But as I looked at the albums I had placed on hold to purchase, I felt a lot of stress, and the weight of being enticed by these shiny things started to take a toll.

So, what did I do?  I began to take away the albums I believed I could live without.  I knew my online shopping addiction was strong, and maybe if I limited myself to just a few, I would feel better about the decision I was making.  It was difficult to filter out some of the albums I really wanted, but I spent just as much time erasing them as I had entering them.  And by the time I got to the bottom of the page, wouldn’t you know it, I got a message that said, “Your shopping cart is empty.”

Life can burden us down with things we really don’t need.  We walk the aisles being enticed by the latest offerings, the juicy gossip, and the promises this world makes to fulfill our lives.  But what we end up with is a shopping cart that becomes too heavy to push as it fills with never-ending obligations, constant comparisons, and feelings of exclusiveness.  And before we know it, the cart becomes so full we no longer have room for the tools God is asking us to carry as we travel our journeys that lead us to him.

When the weight seems heavy and the load overbearing, begin to dump those carts.  Relinquish the things that are causing you stress so that you can make room for the items that bring you peace.  Fill them up with prayer, devotions, positivity, and love.  And when you find that cart overflowing with the gifts God has provided, share it with others so they too can enjoy his forgiveness and grace.  For one day, we will give that last push, and we will stand at the throne of our Savior.  And if we have fulfilled our missions and lived the discipled life God had wanted, I believe it will be his pleasure to welcome us in and say those precious four words we long to hear.  You are with me forever and now “Your Cart Is Empty.”

In Bloom By Justin March

In Bloom By Justin March

“A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it.  It just blooms.”

Zen Shin

When I ran across this quote the other day, I really started to think about how I view myself and the world around me.  Am I constantly comparing my life to another?  Am I competing with my neighbors, friends, or coworkers?  And do I let the person God created become overshadowed by societal pressures and perceptions?

Unfortunately, I can answer yes to all three questions.  This journey I am traveling is filled with bright, shiny treasures, and I often forget that the luxurious feeling I get from those finds are short-lived and soon forgotten.  And when I really take the time to think about the life I am living, it does feel like I am in a constant race with those around me.  So, what can I do to reverse this unhealthy competition?

Maybe it is time to think about why God created me in his own image.  He did not ask me to compare myself to others or yearn for the possessions they embrace.  He did not instruct me to worry about my looks or feel slighted by my body.  And he definitely did not teach me to close others out and exclude them from my life just because we do not share the same beliefs.  In fact, he did just the opposite.

God is calling us to be the people he created.  He is asking us to be blind to color, immune to criticism, and bold in faith.  And he wants us to set out on our journeys equipped with his love so that it can be shared with everyone we encounter.  I believe if we can do this, the comparison, the competitiveness, and the envy naturally deteriorate from our lives.

Doesn’t this sound like a better plan?  Wouldn’t this lifestyle breed inclusiveness, strength, and confidence?

After reading this quote multiple times, I am feeling better about the person God has created.  I am coming to understand that all the flowers around me can be beautiful, not just one.  And when I take a few moments to walk with my Savior in his incredible garden, I become open to what he wants to show me.  It is an amazing place with no room for competition or comparison.

As you begin your week, I hope you just bloom.  God created us all as individuals with different plans and different paths.  And if you ever are feeling inferior, excluded, or less worthy, remember that you are a child of God, and he loves you more than could ever be comprehended.  It is a love that allows your light to shine upon the world, gives you the strength to stand tall, and shields you from the hatred and ugliness this world wants to push.

So, forget about the failures and disappointments, focus on the wins and possibilities, and allow the Holy Spirit to fill your soul with the promises and love that will make you bloom!

“Will your resolution start a revolution?”

“Will your resolution start a revolution?” by Justin March

“resolve”  to find an answer to.  to make clear or understandable.  to reach a firm decision about.
“resolution”  something that is resolved.
“revolution”  a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something:  a change of paradigm.
I am thinking about resolutions for 2023.  I have already bought a membership to the gym, eliminated soda from my diet, and made some changes in how to balance my work, social, and family life.  It is a lot to ponder, and I always get excited about the opportunity for a fresh start and new beginnings.  But, somehow, I believe my list might be a little shallow and there has to be a deeper meaning when it comes to making resolutions.
I decided to do a little research on this subject, and I found this definition from Wikipedia quite interesting.  “A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western World but also found in the Eastern World, in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their behavior at the beginning of a calendar year.”  So, what I believe I am being told is that a resolution gives us the opportunity to set new goals and dream of personal achievements.  Yet it also gives us the chance to eradicate bad behaviors, while continuing the good practices we exhibit in our daily lives.
Ah, now the wheels are rolling!  I need to make goals that are clear and understandable.  They must be concrete and well thought out.  But overall, they should be life changing…not just for myself, but for everyone I am involved with.  Not only should these goals be resolutions to things I want to resolve, they should also be a continuance of things I am doing well.  And when I am thinking about the resolutions I want to make for 2023, I should make them with the hope that they can become a revolution that changes the way I think and gives me a better perspective on life and my encounters with all of God’s children.
Maybe I should start with this.  Love over hate.  When I am out and about in this mixed-up world, I often experience people who are exhausted, angry, and confused.  They lash out when the smallest of behaviors occur, and I am surprised at the cursing, intolerance, and violence that explodes.  So instead of feeding into the rationalities that induce hate, I believe I have the opportunity to turn the other cheek, forgive all wrongdoings, and ask for grace when I make a mistake.  I can choose to love in every situation, both good and bad, and have the hope that this love is contagious enough to start a shift in the way people treat one another.
How about this?  Being inclusive over exclusive.  My entire life I have felt like I am not part of “the club.”  I was either not rich enough, athletic enough, smart enough, or pretty enough to be included.  I always felt like an outsider, and I understand the hurtful emotions that come from feeling left out.  So, I can choose to make sure I am open to everyone that wants to be involved.  My doors shall be inviting and welcoming, and there shall be a hope that the light radiating inside draws others closer to Christ.
I like this one as well.  Sharing over hoarding.  God has blessed my family and I with abundances.  Sometimes those abundances may be in the form of monetary gains, and sometimes those abundances may be in the form of good health, great friendships, and amazing experiences.  God is not asking me to hold on to those abundances so that my life can be enriched above others.  No, he is telling me there is hope in sharing those abundances with those less fortunate so they too can live a life that makes them happy and thankful for what he provides.
How about reading the bible and praying over wasting time on social media sites?  I can promise you this.  I have never felt ashamed or useless when I have spent time in The Word.  God’s messages are always refreshing and thought provoking.  And when I have shut down the distractions this world seems to push, I am filled with The Holy Spirit and ready to take on whatever may come my way.  He gives me a hope that every prayer and every message is heard so I can go out and share his redemption with anyone who has an open ear.
I could go on and on, but here is my hope for the new year.  I pray that your resolutions bring you good health, prosperity, and happiness.  I pray that you can reflect on 2022 and be thankful for all of God’s blessings.  But most of all, I pray that you understand the influence you can have on others in this life.  I pray you have faith that a revolution can be started when you choose love, sacrifice, and forgiveness.  And I pray that you are willing to dig a little deeper, spend some time in God’s Word, and allow others to see your light so they too can experience the precious gifts our Savior so freely gives.  Happy New Year, and I hope your resolutions start a revolution!

“Merry Christmas”

“Merry Christmas” By Justin March

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign.  Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14

“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:21

Christ the child has been born.  The waiting is over, the anticipation comes to a close, and Christmas morning is finally here.
He will walk amongst us and save our souls.  In human form, he will come to understand his people’s trials and extend grace.
Rest in the assurance that our Savior is here.  Have faith in the little child and the promises God has made.
Immanuel.  God with us.  He has promised to never forsake us and has given his only Son to save our fallen humanity.
Submit your life to the one true provider.  We do not have the power to make things right, so allow God to take the reins.
Thankfulness.  Give God the glory in everything he provides and trust in his will when life doesn’t seem to go your way.
Mary.  An amazing story about how God’s perfect plans can change the world.
Are you ready to be saved?  Jesus is now amongst us and ready to guide you along the path God has created.
Share the story with everyone you encounter so they too may be redeemed and find their way to the foot of the cross.
It is Christmas morning, and the house is quiet.  It won’t be long before the excitement fills this space.  The children will awake, and the anticipation will be over as they unwrap those colorful presents.  It will be a joyful time as we share our love with one another and take a few days to rest and rejuvenate.  And as I sit here and send this message to all of you, I find that my heart is warmed and my smile wide.  It is Christmas morning, and it will be a glorious day!
I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas.  I hope that this day is filled with God’s grace and forgiveness, his love and acceptance, and his peace and tranquility.  I hope that you take some time to think about the true meaning of this holiday, and how God is working in your life.  And most of all, I pray that you let your light shine upon others so they too may come to understand how Jesus can change their lives and erase many of the hardships they may endure.  The message of Christmas is one of hope and salvation.  Spread the word!!

“Hope Eternal”

“Hope Eternal” by Justin March

“I AM’s love extends to all.  No one is denied the new life that is assured by my dying and my rising-no one.”

An excerpt from Larry Moeller’s new book “A Fateful Flaw”

Christmas is coming.  In case you haven’t noticed the decorations in the stores, the music on the radio, the television ads, or the ghastly number of delivery trucks on the road, I wanted to remind you that Christmas is coming.  For some, I know this holiday season can be stressful.  For others, it can be quite glorious.  But whether Christmas brings feelings of sadness, laughter, depression, joy, loneliness, or community, there is one thing that will always ring true.  Christmas is coming!

It has been a busy start to the holiday season for the March family, and I feel as though we have been wrapped up in our own little world.  But as I entered the sanctuary at church last Sunday, it was very apparent that Christmas was coming.  The liturgy was different, the hymns felt like carols, and the choir was joyous.  The sermon was full of waiting and anticipation, and I sat in my seat mesmerized by the glow of the advent candles and what they mean for this time of year.

I breathed in fully and exhaled slowly.  I let my mind have a reprieve from the daily struggles, the stressful schedules, and the slowdown at work.  But overall, in this moment in time, I felt at peace.  A peace that comes only from separating myself from the distractions of the media, my cell phone, and all the garbage this world wants to throw in my receptacle.  A peace that springs from an eternal hope and a peace that allows me to celebrate that Christmas is coming.

Hope Eternal.  Sounds like a cool name for a band, movie, or book, doesn’t it?  It may be a small phrase and not much to look at on paper, but oh does it have a deep-rooted meaning for our lives.  It is not just the mere mention of hoping that a loved one gets better.  It does not mean we are hoping for a good day at work, hoping for some new frivolous toy, or hoping that our favorite sports teams win today.  No, my friends, hope eternal goes way beyond this.

When we have eternal hope, we understand that this life is temporary.  We understand that no matter the trials, no matter the heartache, and no matter the loss, God delivered a baby boy to rectify all ailments.  It means that God is always watching out for us.  It means that God has more grace and love than we could ever comprehend.  And it means that God has created a journey, even though it may seem troublesome and arduous at times, that will eventually lead us to the cross.

I pray you enter this holiday season with eternal hope.  I pray that you witness the needs around you and shed light in the dark spaces.  And I pray that you are able to celebrate the coming of our Savior and all the promises that come with his birth.  For it is in this eternal hope where the true meaning of Christmas can be found as we prepare our hearts and souls for the blessed arrival.  Christmas is coming!  Are you ready?

“The Widow’s Offering”

The Widow’s Offering by Justin March

“Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury.  Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.  Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.  They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything-all she had to live on.”   Mark 12:41-44

There must be something in the water because I cannot stop writing about giving.  The subject has me thinking deeply about how my family and I spend our resources, and I often wonder if what we share really makes a difference.  But as I ponder this part of our lives, and as I think about the financial obligation to give, I am witnessing acts that entail much more than just money.

Over the last several years, I have had the pleasure to get to know some families at church and really dive into what makes them tick.  Sometimes we do not have much in common, but there are other times when our passions intertwine.  And for those of you that know me well, meeting people and connecting with their world, is one of my favorite parts in life.  It brings me joy, it fills my cup, and I always feel blessed when I get the opportunity to spend time with others.

I have so many stories I could share about the people and families I have been privileged to encounter, but this is one that really ties into my thoughts around the subject of giving.  When our oldest daughter, Caya, was going through confirmation a little over a decade ago, I met a gentleman who had a child that was traveling the same journey.  While we waited for our loved ones, we would attend adult education classes and got to know one another through some amazing conversations.  I always found him to be thought provoking, pleasant, and most of all, extremely giving.  He may not know the influence he has had on my family and I, but it is a testament to how giving comes down to so much more than money.

With the opportunity to travel the confirmation road together, a relationship was started that has grown more than I could have ever imagined.  We have spent Thursday nights together, we attended a One Year to Live Retreat, he became our son’s mentor, and he even hooked me up with the resources needed to bring “Walking Wet” to fruition.  The giving acts portrayed by this dear friend are something that could never be paid back, but they have inspired me to share all I am with all those God brings into my life.

I share this story because I want you to think about how a simple touch, in this life, can blossom into something so wonderful.  My encounter, so many years ago, has not only solidified a friendship that I cherish, but has spurned branches that have reached his wife, his family, and his network of friends.  And when I think about all the ways we can give to others, I am reminded that when the roots run deep in the giving tree of life, it is then that God can bear his fruit so it can be shared with you and me.

As we enter the season of Advent, I will be thinking about all the ways I can give.  I will pray that the giving comes not from obligation, but from a place of love and hope.  I will be reminded that the financial gifts will be appreciated, but that the sharing of time and talents will be as well.  And as my cup overflows with the joy of spending time with those I care about, I will be thinking about how God’s gift of sending his only son to save the world is the fuel I need to give in every way possible.

Thank you for all the ways you have given to me and my family.  We are humbled by your generosity, your friendship, and your love.  And may God bless you this holiday season as you find ways to share his grace, spread his messages, and bring hope to all those you encounter.  You may not think that the simple act of giving makes a difference, but every smile, every embrace, and every act of kindness does not go un-noticed.  Just like the poor widow at the temple, sometimes it is the smallest gifts that have the largest impact.  All you need to do is give!

“Thanks… Giving”

“Thanks… Giving” by Justin March

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

As we begin Thanksgiving week, I am thinking about all the blessings God has bestowed upon me this year.  Good health, steady employment, loving family, and amazing friends are just a few of the things that come to mind.  Unbelievable vacations made me appreciate other cultures and ways of life, while jaw dropping performances, by some of my favorite artists, elated my soul.  Despite all the scare tactics and fear the world wants me to consume, I can honestly look back and say 2022 brought plenty to be thankful for.

So, if God was so good, and I am able to rejoice and give thanks for everything he provided, then my challenge becomes this.  What will I do to be giving during this holiday season?  I can easily give money, food, clothing, or any other material needs as God has been bountiful in my 2022 income.  But I feel like there is so much more that I can give.  I need to dig deeper, and I need to broaden my perspective.  I need to give more hugs, share more smiles, and spend more time with others.  I need to give by sharing God’s messages and making sure everyone I encounter has a chance to know what he can do for their lives.  And I need to give positivity, light, and encouragement in a world that would rather see us cower in the dark.

I hope you take some time this week to ponder how God has blessed you in 2022.  Break down the word Thanksgiving and express “thanks” for all you have received and be “giving” in all you do.  Spend time with the ones you love, relax, breathe in The Holy Spirit, and be generous with your talents as you embrace each day as a new gift from God.  And always remember that the word Thanksgiving reminds us to be both “thankful” and “giving” as we travel our journeys and fulfill his mission.
